# Python libraries The Palantir extension for Visual Studio Code contains a library panel that allows you to manage the Python libraries inside your Project. You can search for libraries and install different versions. ![Visual Studio Code library panel.](../../../assets/7fbde958b4060020e611976906a8c53ae95ab85d0bfcdda667f2ef29ca967a45.webp) When you install a library, the extension automatically adds the dependency to the [meta.yaml](../../transforms-python/project-structure/index.md#metayaml) file and updates the Python environment. ## Project imports When you try to install a library from a backing repository that is not imported into your project, you will be prompted to add that backing repository and you must choose **Yes** to continue. ![Backing repository import.](../../../assets/a1312948465202f5d3c886413f953b0f46c3ab9a1eb03116e9352245e48f71d9.webp)
