# Getting started This tutorial will walk you through creating a new Notepad document, adding text, an image, and a table, and then exporting the document as a PDF or DOCX. ## Create a Notepad document There are multiple ways to create a new Notepad document: * Hover over the Notepad application icon in the Foundry sidebar and select **New document**. * Select **+ New > Notepad document** in a [project](../../security/projects-and-roles/index.md) folder. * Right-click anywhere in a project folder and select **New > Notepad document**. ![Create a new Notepad document from the Foundry sidebar or from within a project folder.](../../../assets/685c9096621ae06b6759b6f2b8a708106b463582a4d659d7bf493968eb517306.webp) Once you create your document, start by adding a headline: type your headline caption and select **Large Heading** in the top toolbar to format the text accordingly. Next, add some text to your document and add a second column to put an image right next to it. To do this, first select **Add column** in the toolbar and either drag and drop an existing image or simply paste an image from the clipboard into the new column. Finally, insert a table at the bottom of your document. To do this, open the widget insertion menu by typing the **/** shortcut in a paragraph or by selecting **+ Widget** in the toolbar and searching for *Table*. ![Add a table to a Notepad document through the widget insertion menu.](../../../assets/bcb0d390132952647fbd6590f36b292e206faa891f2385fbcdc4463de477cb22.webp) ## Export a Notepad document To [export the document to share with others](../export/index.md), select the **File** menu in the top left and choose either **Export as PDF** or **Export as DOCX** to trigger the document rendering process. When the Notepad finishes rendering, Foundry automatically downloads and saves the document in the corresponding file format. ![Use the File menu to export a Notepad document as either a PDF or DOCX.](../../../assets/2a12e3e8ee5314383f9a48f8bb34c5099981a1574d0dda05ac3ce54d8ba6fc0d.webp) ## Search for a Notepad document Use the **Search documents** bar on the Notepad homepage to search for any document you are able to access. ![Use the Search documents bar on the Notepad homepage to search for any document you are able to access.](../../../assets/445e6d84a34eae39816fb83c801936e2419e4e2616ca446eb8d07cc01993af25.webp) To navigate to the Notepad homepage from a document you are currently viewing, select **File > Open document**. ![Navigate to the Notepad homepage from an opened document.](../../../assets/df678b290bd20f17d44120cbb30b3923e7fbfe9853561dfe32c7fe3134d0b71c.webp)
